Is Morocco a Safe Country for Western Women?

As highlighted in guidebooks and reiterated by us, your local experts, Morocco is indeed a safe destination for travel.

In the unfortunate event of non-physical sexual harassment, women are encouraged to follow the example of Moroccan women: ignore it. Demonstrating confidence and self-assurance often serves as a deterrent to unwanted advances. Avoiding prolonged eye contact and refraining from engaging with strangers can also help assert boundaries. The aim is to convey a message of expecting the same respect and standards as Moroccan women, who frequently encounter catcalls but refuse to tolerate anything beyond that, particularly unwelcome physical contact like groping.

Should such incidents occur, it’s advisable to make a scene, as Moroccans nearby are likely to intervene and reprimand the perpetrator strongly. Additionally, dressing modestly, such as wearing a long skirt and loose, long-sleeved shirt, can further minimize unwanted attention. It’s important to note that these precautions are primarily relevant when traveling independently, as our expert team ensures your safety and provides a supportive environment throughout your journey. During your private time each day, you’ll have the opportunity to enjoy and explore, secure in the knowledge that our team is dedicated to your well-being.

My husband and I had a glorious day trip with Morocco Expert Tours in September. Arranging our day to Essaouira was completed promptly and with excellent communication. Our stop along the way to see the goats in the argan trees was a real treat. Essauoira is a picturesque seaside town and we had a terrific lunch with seafood chosen fresh from the water. Youssef, our guide and Mohammed our experienced driver were terrific to travel with. Youssef gave wonderful historical facts and commentary and kept us humoured by riddles en route. Many thanks to Hamid for helping with the arrangements.

Thank you Morocco Expert Tours for this memory of a lifetime!
